It is just so wonderful to have life back to normal, to be out of the Covid-19 lockdown here in New Zealand, how lucky we are to be living here. We are in the second half of the year already - where does time go! More than halfway through winter and spring not too far away which is a pleasant thought.
Our Rest Home is full at present with permanent residents – it is a good feeling to have and hope everyone is happy here with us.
Birthdays this month were all ladies; Dorothy Tuck on 15th and Florence Dunkin and Betty Harris both turned 90 on 31st July. A delicious homemade cake was made in our kitchen for Betty to share, celebrate and enjoy with all our residents. Family very kindly brought in snacks for Florence and a cake in the afternoon to share with everyone which was much appreciated.
We would like to say a big thank you to Raymond Matson and his family, Barry and Kel for the kind donation of a lazy boy chair for our lounge. This is was most welcome..
We had our chef prepare a Maori lunchtime meal on the 16th July after which our residents were entertained by Peter Whalley who sang and played his guitar. Residents have had entertainment on the weekends by Roy, George, Charlie and Wendy.
We have had two bus outings this month - one to Huntly to the lake, then a stop at the point in Ngaruawahia and the second one was a shopping trip to the base.
We have four trainee Occupational Therapists coming in in the next seven weeks on a Tuesday and Thursday. Ruby, Lucy, Laura and Amelia will be training with Mahi (activities). I am sure they will get a good feel of how things work in a rest home in their time spent with us.
Residents had a surprise lunch meal on Wednesday 29th – they had Subway with a homemade soup on the side. These occasions are enjoyed and keep our residents guessing as to what they may have!
Our church services are back to normal and David very kindly still comes in to do quizzes. Bingo remains very popular on the two days that Ian calls it out.
