Happy New Year everyone, may 2020 bring you good health, happiness and all that you wish for.
We celebrated two birthdays this month with cakes from our kitchen - Happy Birthday Lindsey and Glenys.
December has been a very busy month. Jan Thomson came in on the 2nd for Pet Therapy and Christine came with her dog ‘Cookie’ on the 19th.
We had our resident BBQ lunch on 3rd December out on the deck, always a popular event and good to be outside and enjoy the start of summer.
Te Kowhai School choir came on the 4th with Mareika to entertain and sing Christmas carols and songs to our residents – it is always very special to hear these young children singing. It was lovely to see them dressed up for Christmas too. Afterwards they were spoilt with delicious food and soft drinks amid much excitement and chatter.
We had our Volunteers morning tea on 10th and a shopping trip on 12th.
On the 13th L&P came to entertain us for a special occasion when we had a ‘pot luck’ lunch with family members. It was a beautiful day enjoyed by all with wonderful food and a lovely atmosphere. Tables were set up inside and more outside in the garden. In the afternoon we had more music when ‘Possum’ played his ukelele and sang songs with the residents.
We said goodbye to Brian Hollis on 16th as he moved closer to family in Auckland. We hope Brian will be very happy in his new location and we were sad to see him go. Catherine and 3 children came in to serve morning tea and chat with our residents.
We organised two vans on the 18th for a drive to see the Christmas lights around Hamilton. A thank you goes to Wilma who very kindly offered and wanted to pay for the one van which was a very kind gesture indeed.
On the evening of the 19th we had a choir from the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who came and sang here for our residents.
Our ladies made some Christmas hair bands in craft which they enjoyed wearing in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
There was a special menu for lunch on Christmas day, it was enjoyed immensely by the residents. Thank you to the staff for their hard work to make this occasion a success.
Charlie and Marlene came in and entertained on the 31st for the last day and ‘Happy Hour’ of the year with a celebration cake and snacks.
The weekend entertainers were Peter, Roy and Louise - music is always enjoyed by our residents.
We say thank you once again to our ‘regulars’ who give their time to us - Reg and his team who come in to take our Church Service fortnightly and David takes a service the week in between. David Marshall also gives his time doing quizzes and board games with our residents which they enjoy plus he has a very wonderful sense of humour - we always hear them laughing.
Again, if there is anyone who would like to offer their time here at Brylyn please pop in or give us a call. Perhaps you or someone you know would like to give a talk to our residents on something interesting you have done in your life or in your profession, or can entertain us in any way with music, dance or maybe even help with an activity - we would love to hear from you.
Drive safely if you are going on holiday and enjoy summer,
Regards from Jennifer Slement and all at Brylyn.
