Welcome to Bruce Ogilvie, Adrian Ngamotu and Brian Hollis who have come in as permanent residents to our facility. We love having our respite resident too and hope they enjoy their time with us.
Our chef did not have to bake any birthday cakes this month as no one had an October birthday!
It was so disappointing that our All Blacks did not win the world cup but this would have been absolutely devastating for the team. Residents did enjoy watching the matches though.
We had two outings; one to the Tamahere café on the 14th and the next trip was on 24th to Cambridge lake after which there was a stop for a little bit of shopping at the Countdown in Cambridge.
There has been entertainment on both weekend days this month with Louise, Charlie, Peter, George and Roy. Tame came in on a weekday to sing with us. A family friend of Brian Hollis and Joyce and Ray Park from Bali played his guitar and sang songs with our residents on the 9th – it was a wonderful afternoon, four hours of pure enjoyment. Our happy hour on 25th went well with entertainment by Maurice Edds and his wife.
We had two speakers in; on the 21st we had a talk on roses from the Rose Society and on the 28th Neil came in to talk about Hocking House. Diwali was celebrated on the evening of the 22nd with our residents and staff. This was a lively celebration with dancing and delicious food which was enjoyed by all.
Reg and David come in to take our Church services. David Marshall also gives his time and does board games with our residents. We are always grateful to these ‘regulars’ who give their time willingly.
Again, if there is anyone who would like to offer their time here at Brylyn please pop in or give us a call, perhaps you or someone you know would like to give a talk to our residents on something interesting you have done in your life or in your profession, or can entertain us in any way with music or maybe even help with an activity - we would love to hear from you.
The days are getting warm at last as summer approaches, a lovely time of the year.
Until next month,
Regards from Jennifer Slement and all at Brylyn.
